Fishing
One of Carnarvon's main attractions is the fantastic fishing!
Come and fish from the One Mile Jetty, the beach, a boat or
the nearby islands.
Common catches include mulloway, tailor, snapper, bream, mackerel,
tuna, emperor, groper, shark and blue manna crabs from May
to August.
Fresh seafood including prawns, scallops and crabs, is available
locally.
OTC satellite dish
Come and climb the huge telecommunications dish, opened in
1966, that was involved in the space race to put man on the
moon.
Gateway to Kennedy Ranges and Mt Augustus
Mount Augustus is the largest rock in the world, twice the
size of Ayers Rock.
It abruptly rises 2354 feet above the surrounding plains and
is 1750 million years old. Fascinating geological formations,
aboriginal rock paintings and rich animal and bird life can
be found here.
Blow Holes
75 kilometres north of Carnarvon are awe inspiring jets of
water erupting into the air known as the Blow Holes.
Other Attractions
The One Mile Jetty was built in 1897 for exporting wool and
livestock from the region. It is now a great place to fish,
take a stroll, or ride the train out to the end, on weekends.
Take a drive along North and South River Roads and view the
wide range of produce available from the Fruit and Vegetable
Plantations (mangoes, paw paws, bananas, citrus, stone fruits,
grapes, avocados, melons, tomatoes, capsicums, sweet corn)
